Beijing firmly and strongly deplores the blatant slanders and defamation of the United States against the port of Chancay in Peru, stated a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday. According to the Argentine News Agency, the spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Lin Jian, made these statements during a regular press conference, responding to a query related to statements on this matter recently issued by the US State Department's Office of Western Hemisphere Affairs. The port of Chancay, a deep-water commercial hub and South America's first eco-smart port, is a flagship cooperation project between China and Peru under the Belt and Road Initiative. He also referred to diplomatic relations. On the other hand, Jian commented that state-to-state diplomacy plays an irreplaceable strategic guiding role in China-US relations. He recalled that in a recent phone call, US President Donald Trump once again expressed his intention to visit China in April, while Chinese President Xi Jinping reiterated his invitation. Both sides are maintaining communication on this matter, the spokesperson pointed out. The essence of China-US economic and trade relations lies in mutual benefit and win-win results, Lin noted. 'Both sides must work together to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, injecting greater certainty and stability into China-US economic and trade cooperation as well as the global economy,' the spokesperson expressed.
