Beijing, December 4, 2025 (NA) -- The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lin Jian, stated this Wednesday that China opposes the interference of external forces in the internal affairs of Venezuela under any pretext and called on all parties to avoid a further escalation of the situation. He reiterated China's support for Venezuela amid the U.S. military operation in the Caribbean, assuring that the country is "working with all parties" to "prevent a further escalation" of the situation in the South American nation. He made these remarks after U.S. President Donald Trump claimed he was preparing ground attacks amid his deployment in waters near the country. Lin emphasized that Beijing "opposes any action that violates the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter or infringes upon the sovereignty and security of other countries". On November 29, the United States had stated that the airspace over and around Venezuela should be considered "closed in its entirety". The Venezuelan government issued a statement firmly opposing these U.S. declarations, arguing that they violate the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and international law. During a meeting in Washington, the U.S. leader insisted that "very soon" attacks would begin against supposed drug cartels within Venezuelan territory, as part of the "Southern Lance" operation.
Venezuelan Rejection In the face of this new threat, the Venezuelan government issued a statement firmly opposing these U.S. declarations, arguing that they violate the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and international law. On Tuesday, Venezuela had warned that regional stability in the Caribbean is threatened by an unprecedented U.S. military deployment that seeks to destabilize the environment of the South American country and affect its sovereignty. The Venezuelan government has been denouncing that the U.S. deployment is part of a plan to foment a violent change of government in the South American nation. China has repeatedly condemned in recent weeks what it describes as U.S. "interference" in the internal affairs of Venezuela. Numerous countries in Latin America and the Caribbean have expressed their opposition to the U.S. statements. In response, Lin declared at a regular press conference that China opposes any act that violates the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and infringes upon the sovereignty and security of other countries. Similarly, the spokesperson urged all parties to jointly defend the status of Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace.
U.S. Military Operations These statements come amid the expansion of U.S. military operations in Latin America, with the deployment of marines, warships, fighter jets, bombers, submarines, and drones, amid speculation about the possibility of Washington launching an attack against Venezuela. To date, the U.S. military has carried out 21 attacks against alleged drug trafficking vessels, which have caused the death of at least 83 people, whom the government described as "narcoterrorists".
