The President of China, Xi Jinping, stated that his country is ready to work with Japan to build constructive bilateral relations that meet the requirements of the new era. During a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, held on the sidelines of the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in the South Korean city of Gyeongju, Xi emphasized that China and Japan will promote the healthy long-term development of their relations. 'China is willing to work with Japan to uphold the principles and guidelines set forth in the four political documents between the two countries, maintain a political foundation for bilateral relations, and promote a strategic and mutually beneficial relationship,' Xi said. The President noted that China-Japan relations face opportunities and challenges, according to the Xinhua news agency report. He commented that he hopes the new Japanese cabinet 'will establish a correct understanding of its relationship with China, value the greater efforts of statesmen and various sectors in both countries that contribute to the development of bilateral relations, and aspire to expand the path of peace, friendship, and cooperation.' Xi called for support for an important consensus and urged nations to 'advance a strategic, mutually beneficial relationship, be partners without threatening each other, and take history as a mirror for the future.' He then demanded respect for and compliance with clear provisions on important issues, such as history and Taiwan, in accordance with the four political documents between China and Japan, ensuring that the foundation of Sino-Japanese relations is not undermined. He recalled the 'Murayama Declaration,' which deeply reflects on the history of Japan's aggression. He then addressed the issue of mutual benefit and called on both countries to strengthen cooperation in areas such as advanced manufacturing, the digital economy, green development, finance, and health. After defending the multilateral trading system, he moved on to respecting the differences between the two nations.
