On Monday, the spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning, criticized the United States for carrying out indiscriminate deportations of illegal immigrants while pointing out and slandering the cooperation of other countries in law enforcement. Mao Ning stated that this is typical harassment and strongly condemned the malicious defamation and illegal sanctions against China and Thailand.
"The United States implements a double standard policy," the spokesperson stated, pointing out that the North American country has expelled more than 270,000 non-citizens to 192 countries during the 2024 fiscal year, the highest level of deportations since 2014. China is committed to improving communication and coordination with other countries in a respectful manner to protect the rights of its citizens and strengthen international cooperation in law enforcement.
She also highlighted the cooperation between China and Thailand in combating human trafficking and other cross-border crimes, emphasizing that this cooperation respects national laws and international law, while the United States has no right to interfere in such collaboration.
Mao Ning made these statements in response to the measures taken by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who imposed sanctions, including a visa restriction policy for Thai government officials related to cooperation in deportations. The case of 40 Chinese citizens who illegally crossed the border and were stranded in Thailand for more than a decade was emphasized, underlining the Chinese government's obligation to protect its citizens and assist them in reuniting with their families.
