A Chinese study has found that consuming high-fat cheese and cream reduces the risk of developing dementia. Researcher Youfei Du from Lanzhou University in China examined the link between high-fat dairy products and the risk of dementia based on health data from over 27,000 participants in a Swedish study on the link between diet and cancer. The study recorded the foods consumed by volunteers, conducted interviews with them, and asked them to fill out questionnaires. The study, published in the scientific journal Neurology, documented 3,208 cases of dementia over 25 years of continuous follow-up. Researchers found that consuming 50 grams of high-fat cheese daily reduces the risk of developing any type of dementia, and consuming 20 grams of high-fat cream daily also reduces the risk of developing dementia. The researchers found no link between consuming low-fat dairy products and a reduced risk of developing dementia. The medical website 'Health Day' quoted Dr. Emily Sunnath from Lund University in Sweden as saying: 'These results indicate that not all dairy products are equally beneficial for brain health.' She added: 'While consuming high-fat cheese and cream reduces the risk of developing dementia, other dairy products or their low-fat alternatives do not have the same benefit.' The researcher also noted that further studies are needed to confirm the benefits of high-fat dairy products for brain protection.
Study: High-Fat Cheese and Cream Reduce Dementia Risk
Chinese researchers have discovered that regular consumption of 50g of high-fat cheese and 20g of cream daily may reduce the likelihood of developing dementia over 25 years. Low-fat dairy products, however, showed no such effect.
