Beijing, Reuters — Official data released on Monday showed that China's population fell for the fourth consecutive year in 2025, with the birth rate dropping to a new record low, and experts noting that this decline is likely to continue in the coming years. The National Bureau of Statistics said the total population of China decreased by 3.39 million to reach 1.405 billion in 2025, a faster decline than in 2024. The total number of births fell to 7.92 million in 2025, down 17% from 9.54 million in 2024. The number of deaths rose to 11.31 million in 2025 from 10.93 million in 2024. China's birth rate fell to 5.63 births per 1,000 people.
