
According to the China Energy Research Society, the Asian country has the largest total capacity for nuclear power generation in the world. China has 58.08 million kilowatts of nuclear power units in operation, as well as 55.05 million kilowatts officially approved or under construction.
The president of the Society, Shi Yubo, stated during the III Conference on High-Quality Development of Nuclear Energy in China, held in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, that it is crucial to focus on forging new quality productive forces and promoting high-quality development in the nuclear energy sector. In 2023, nuclear power generation in China reached 430 billion kilowatt-hours, representing more than 13% of its total clean energy generation, which was about 3.1 trillion kilowatt-hours that same year.
The conference, which had more than 1,200 representatives from various sectors, addressed development prospects in nuclear energy, nuclear medicine, nuclear fusion, development strategies, and the digitization of the industry. Additionally, the International Innovation Exhibition in the Nuclear Energy Industry of Shenzhen was held, showcasing advancements in the sector.
