China to Deploy Human-like Robots at Vietnam Border

Chinese authorities plan to use human-like robots to guide travelers and manage crowds at some border crossings. Shenzhen-based company 'Unitika Robotics' announced it has won a multi-million dollar contract to involve its latest model in a pilot project. The company said it signed a $37 million deal with a human-like robot testing center located near the China-Vietnam border. The project will primarily use Unitika's latest 'Walker' human-like robots to test practical applications, such as assisting in border management and logistics services. Unitika announced it will begin delivering the robots to the center next month. The Chinese government has encouraged local companies to develop human-like robots, aiming to lead this sector globally. A report published in April by specialized consulting firm 'Leader Robot' predicted that the human-like robot industry in China will reach 82 billion yuan ($11.6 billion) by 2025, accounting for half of global sales.
