
The country plans to allocate 1.784665 trillion yuan (about 249 billion dollars) to defense spending this year, according to a budget project report presented to the National People's Congress, the Chinese legislative body, for further deliberation.

Xi Jinping and other leaders attended the opening of the third session of the 14th National Committee of the CPPCC, held at the Great Hall of the People. During the meeting, the agenda for the session was approved and various topics were reviewed, according to the Xinhua news agency.
