On Monday, China announced that it plans to conduct military exercises, including "live-fire drills," in the Taiwan Strait on Tuesday.
The Chinese announcement of the scheduled exercises has raised concerns in neighboring Taiwan, which considers itself separate from mainland China. The island regularly complains about threats from Beijing and violations of air and maritime space.
"The target practice will be conducted with live ammunition outside the southeastern coastal region of Fujian," the Xinhuanet agency reported.
In response to previous exercises, Taiwan's Ministry of Defense stated that it will closely monitor the situation and take all necessary security measures.
