China Protests Japanese Lawmakers' Visit to Taiwan

Beijing, December 23 (NA) — The Chinese government on Monday expressed its firm opposition to the visit of Japanese lawmakers to the Chinese region of Taiwan, confirming it has lodged formal protests with Japan, as it considers the initiative an interference in its internal affairs. Lin Jian, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated at a press conference that these actions "seriously violate the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan" and the commitments assumed by Tokyo regarding the One-China principle, according to the Argentine News Agency. "The Japanese side must reflect deeply, correct its mistakes, and refrain from interfering in the affairs of China," the spokesperson emphasized, noting that the Taiwan issue constitutes a central matter of sovereignty and territorial integrity for Beijing. China maintains that Taiwan is an inalienable part of its territory and rejects any official contact between the island and foreign governments or parliaments, as such gestures are seen as encouraging separatist positions and undermining regional stability.
