A simple domestic dispute over buying a dishwasher in southern China escalated into a shocking act of violence. After his wife purchased the appliance without informing him, a man smashed the furniture in their rented apartment. His wife filmed the incident, which sparked widespread debate on social media. The viral video, posted by the wife, shows the living room in a state of complete destruction. She explained that the argument began after she decided to buy a dishwasher without prior notice to her husband. According to the 'Hindustan Times', the woman, living in Guangdong province, bought the device on January 8 through an online platform for 1500 yuan (about $215), justifying it by the difficulty of washing dishes by hand during winter, especially as her husband does not share the household chores. The husband only learned of the purchase when the installer arrived and quickly demanded she cancel the order, citing high electricity and water costs. However, she replied that the price was reasonable and the family could afford it. As the wife refused to stop the installation, tensions escalated rapidly, turning the dispute into a violent outburst during which the husband smashed the living room furniture and its contents. Amid the chaos, the wife left the house in tears and took refuge in a hotel, spending the night away from the apartment. She later said she didn't understand why her husband refused to buy an appliance that would ease her daily burdens, noting that financial and shopping disputes were a recurring issue in their marriage. The husband works away from home and earns about 11,000 yuan monthly (around $1600), while the wife focuses on caring for their two children. Despite the incident, the wife returned the dishwasher the next day. Subsequently, the husband appeared in another video offering a public apology, saying: 'I was in a bad mood, I will treat you better in the future, and we can buy a smaller dishwasher.' The incident has sparked sharp debate on Chinese social media, with many criticizing the husband's violent behavior, arguing that financial disputes do not justify domestic violence. Others, however, believed the wife should have considered the family's economic situation before making major purchasing decisions.
