According to a report by Reuters, Tencent announced its new project – a digital currency. It plans to launch a pilot project of the new cryptocurrency in five cities in China.
Citing an official statement, Reuters reports that Tencent plans to use its payment solutions WeChat Pay and QQ Wallet to ensure payments and exchanges of the new digital currency.
"We aim to provide a partial solution for the digital currency to improve the effectiveness of payments and conform to banking requirements and methods," the company stated in the announcement.
The pilot project of Tencent's cryptocurrency will be another step for the company in the field of digital payments.
