Xiaomi Tests Humanoid Robots in Its Factories

In its effort to boost productivity at its factories, Xiaomi has tested humanoid robots at its electric vehicle manufacturing plants. The company's president, Lu Weibing, told CNBC on the sidelines of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, that two humanoid robots can complete 90% of the work in three hours. He added that they can perform tasks such as screwing nuts and transporting materials. Weibing continued: "The biggest challenge in integrating robots into our production lines is their ability to keep up with the pace of work." He added that in the future, these robots will be able to "replace humans in some jobs" and "accomplish tasks that humans are incapable of doing." Xiaomi unveiled its humanoid robot CyberOne for the first time in 2022, but it is not currently selling it. However, Lu stated that the use of robots in production factories is still in its early stages. He told CNBC: "Robots on our production lines were not performing official tasks, they were more like trainees." At Xiaomi's car factory, a new car comes off the assembly line every 76 seconds, and the two humanoid robots can keep up with this pace.
