Growth of Solar and Wind Energy in China

China's solar energy sector experienced continuous expansion in 2025, significantly contributing to the country's total generation capacity growth, according to data published by the National Energy Administration (NEA). By the end of 2025, China's total installed generation capacity stood at 3890 million kilowatts (kW), marking a year-on-year increase of 16.1%. Solar energy was the standout in the country's energy mix, with installed capacity soaring by 35.4% to reach 1200 million kW, according to a Xinhua report, which is subscribed to by the Argentine News Agency. Expansion of wind energy Wind energy also continued its steady expansion, with installed capacity reaching 640 million kW, representing a year-on-year increase of 22.9%. NEA data also showed that the average accumulated utilization rate of power generation equipment (for power plants with a capacity of 6000 kW or more) was 3119 hours in 2025, a decrease of 312 hours compared to 2024. China built the world's largest renewable energy system, committing to accelerate the green transition in all areas.
