China urges Netherlands to reverse semiconductor restrictions

The Chinese government has urged the authorities of the Netherlands to reverse an administrative order affecting Nexperia, a major semiconductor manufacturer and a subsidiary of the Chinese firm Wingtech. In a statement from the Ministry of Commerce, Beijing called the measure an "inappropriate administrative intervention" in the company's private operations and demanded its immediate revocation to avoid further damage to the technology sector. The conflict takes place against the backdrop of a growing global dispute over the control of microchip supply chains. A spokesperson for the Chinese ministry urged the Dutch government to create conditions that allow for dialogue between companies and to "restore the security and stability of global industrial chains." From the Asian giant, they argued that exemptions for civilian-use exports have already been implemented to ensure the flow of commerce. In this regard, Beijing believes that the Netherlands' stance hinders the predictability of the international technology market. Nexperia, headquartered in the Netherlands but owned by Chinese capital, has been at the center of the stage due to the increasing restrictions Western countries are applying to Chinese investments in strategic sectors. According to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, this type of administrative decision sets a negative precedent for business cooperation and risks the stability of semiconductor supplies, a critical input for the global automotive and electronics industries.
