China Imposes Tariffs on EU Dairy Products

China announced on Monday that it will impose provisional tariffs on 'some dairy products' imported from the European Union, marking the latest chapter in a trade dispute that spans from food to electric vehicles. According to the Ministry of Commerce, preliminary results of an investigation, due to conclude in February, linked subsidies with tariffs ranging from 21.9% to 42.7%. The tariffs will take effect on Tuesday and apply to a range of products including fresh and processed cheeses, blue cheese, and certain types of milk and cream, Beijing's Ministry of Commerce announced in a statement. The Chinese authorities had launched the anti-subsidy investigation in August 2024 at the request of the Dairy Association of China.
