China's Railway Network Sets Record for Passenger Traffic

China's railway network reached a record number of passenger trips during the first 11 months of 2025, totaling 4.280 billion journeys, representing a year-on-year increase of 6.6%, according to official data released by the country's railway operator. According to a report from China State Railway Group Co., Ltd., an average of 11,258 passenger trains operated daily from January to November, a 7.1% increase from the same period last year, reflecting the sustained recovery in mobility and transport demand. To boost service consumption, the company announced it will expand custom trains, aimed at meeting travel demand related to sporting events, exhibitions, fairs, and shows in various regions of the country. Cross-border railway transport also showed strong growth. The Guangzhou–Shenzhen–Hong Kong express link handled 28.94 million international trips, while the China–Laos railway managed 244,000 passengers in the same period. In parallel, investment in infrastructure continued to expand: between January and November, investment in fixed assets of China's railway sector increased by 5.9% year-on-year, reinforcing the process of modernization and network expansion.
