China Unveils New Smart Electric Truck for 'Green Logistics' Transformation

China has developed a new type of heavy-duty electric truck called the 'Zhidao Electrified Road Transport System' to drive the ecological transformation of the country's logistics sector, according to the manufacturer.

The truck, known as the Zhidao Electrified Road Transport System, was first unveiled at a recent international railway transport exhibition in China's central Hunan province, according to a Xinhua news agency report accessed by the Argentine News Agency. This has given new momentum to the modernization of the road transport sector and offered a more efficient, intelligent, and environmentally friendly mobility solution.

The eco-friendly smart truck integrates various advanced technologies, such as smart energy charging, smart energy connectivity, smart driving, and smart safety control and operations, the manufacturer informed Xinhua.

The truck draws power through pantographs connected to overhead catenaries. Its upper 'braids', pantographs, and catenary maintain precise contact, ensuring stable current transmission and an uninterrupted energy supply to the vehicle.

These features work together to optimize the vehicle's performance, improving both operational intelligence and overall transport efficiency.

To address safety concerns associated with large, heavy-duty vehicles, the truck has been equipped with modules for pantograph and catenary safety, power supply failure prevention, and driving safety.

Together, these modules form a comprehensive safety framework that enables real-time risk alerts and a rapid response to emergencies, ensuring reliable and safe operations.

This new transport system is ideal for heavy-duty cargo operations on roads and in mining areas with abundant wind and photovoltaic resources.

According to the developer, by leveraging clean energy, it can help drive the 'green transformation' of the logistics sector and support its sustainable development.

The continuous expansion of China's economy has driven the development of an extensive nationwide land-based heavy cargo transport network. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, China has approximately 9 million heavy-duty trucks, which are mainly used for transporting bulk cargo in environments such as ports and mining areas.

Heavy-duty trucks and mining trucks are the primary means of transport for China's goods transport system.

This allows it to overcome the capacity limitations of batteries in traditional heavy electric vehicles, enabling longer continuous operations suitable for heavy cargo transport, the manufacturer stated.

In addition to its smart energy charging system, the truck's smart driving design integrates technologies such as environmental perception, decision-making, planning, and control execution.

Therefore, reducing its operational costs and improving the overall efficiency of heavy-duty cargo transport is fundamental to strengthening the country's logistics economy.

The developer noted that continuous efforts are being made to optimize the Zhidao Electrified Road Transport System.

"By simulating extreme road conditions with bumps and undulations, we have been continuously refining the performance of the pantograph-catenary system," explained Wang Bing, marketing director of the R&D Center for the Zhidao Electrified Road Transport System at CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd.

The 'heavy-duty braided truck' can travel smoothly and quietly on straight stretches, continuous curves, and gradients.

According to Wang, the heavy-duty vehicle's pantograph-catenary system now operates smoothly, ensuring stable performance for the smart 'braided' truck.

In the future, an increasing number of smart and eco-friendly vehicles powered by advanced technologies are expected to be introduced.
