A Chinese company found itself in a bizarre and amusing situation that sparked a major debate after all its employees, including the CEO, received an email from the human resources department informing them of their immediate termination.
According to local media, the HR department was testing a new automation tool for termination procedures. However, one employee forgot to switch the system from test mode to live mode, which resulted in sending actual termination letters to about 300 employees at once.
One employee wrote on Reddit: "This morning, all employees, including senior management, received an official termination notice. A state of confusion and chaos ensued, with one manager asking: 'Should I start packing my things?'."
He continued: "The IT department quickly stepped in to fix the situation by sending an urgent message in large capital letters that read: 'NO ONE HAS BEEN LAID OFF, PLEASE DO NOT HAND IN YOUR ACCESS CARDS'."
The post went viral online, with some users sharing similar experiences and commenting sarcastically on the situation.
