The 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) concluded with planned annual agreements worth $83.49 billion, a 4.4% increase from the previous edition, reaching a record high, the CIIE Bureau said.

The exhibition's business area covered over 367,000 square meters and attracted 4,108 companies from 138 countries and regions, setting records for both scale and number of participants. Among the attendees were 290 Fortune Global 500 companies and industry leaders. Since the inception of the CIIE, 180 companies have participated across the eight expos, said Wu Zhengping, Deputy Director-General of the CIIE Bureau.

During the six-day event, 461 new products, technologies, and services were unveiled, including 201 global debuts, 65 Asian premieres, and 195 China launches, spanning industries from biomedicine and technical equipment to green technology and low-carbon solutions.

The 8th CIIE organized 43 trade delegations and over 700 sub-delegations, with registered attendees exceeding 460,000, a 7% year-on-year increase.

China has been the world's second-largest import market for 16 consecutive years, and its imports of goods and services during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025) are set to surpass $15 trillion, said Vice Minister of Commerce Sheng Qiuping.

Launched in 2018 as the world's first national-level import expo, the CIIE was designed to expand China's opening-up and turn its vast market into a shared opportunity for the world.

Preparations for the 9th CIIE are already underway, with over 80,000 square meters of its designated business exhibition space already reserved.
