China expects its space tourism sector to reach an initial stage of commercial operations within the next five to ten years, in line with the accelerated and sustainable development of the commercial space industry. A state group of experts expressed this expectation.
A report published in early April by CCID Consulting, under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, reveals that the entire industrial chain of the commercial space industry in the country has experienced rapid growth. According to the report, by the end of the XV Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030) or during the next Five-Year Plan (2031-2035), this industry is likely to achieve greater maturity, increasing its profitability and gaining global recognition.
Yang Shaoxian, a leading researcher at CCID Consulting, predicts that in the next five to ten years, space tourism and China’s commercial trips to the Moon will show advances in policies, testing verifications, and could enter an initial operational phase.
The government work report of this year mentioned that the commercial space sector has strategic significance for China and is considered a "new engine of economic growth." It was also highlighted that China will promote the safe and solid development of various emerging industries, including the commercial space sector and the low-altitude economy.
