China announced in a statement that it will take "all necessary measures" to protect its interests in response to the 25% tariffs on imported steel and aluminum imposed by the U.S. This came after the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden confirmed the controversial tariffs against major trade partners of the country.

"China is deeply worried about the enormous pressure imposed on our economic relations regarding trade in steel and aluminum," the Chinese embassy in Washington said. "We will be compelled to take all necessary measures to protect our legal rights and interests".

At the end of June, the U.S. reinstated tariffs on steel and aluminum for a number of countries, including China. At that time, Chinese authorities called such a step "discriminatory" and stated that they were ready to accept "unavoidable and necessary countermeasures".

"We hope that the U.S. will retreat from the erroneous decision and return to a healthy dialogue," the Chinese embassy added.
