Cycling Routes Closed in Zhengzhou to Control Crowds

In the municipality of Henan province, China, bicycle lanes connecting the towns of Zhengzhou and Kaifeng were closed to prevent a large gathering of students and youth who surged to try traditional guantan dishes, popular in the region. It all began in June of last year when four girls from Zhengzhou made an impromptu trip just to try traditional guantan, popular in their hometown. Since that moment, social media users in China have made trips by bicycle and traveled this distance to try this dish, a popular trend. According to reports, 200,000 young people rented bicycles at a very low price for a journey stretching 60 kilometers, which contributed to transportation delays in the surrounding areas. Thieves, having filled the streets, closed auto registrations, forcing local authorities to intervene.
