China stated on Sunday that it would adopt "countermeasures" to "firmly protect" its rights and interests after the United States decided to impose a 10% tariff on goods from China. Beijing also announced that it intended to file a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) against "unlawful practices" by the U.S.

"China is firmly determined to respond to these tariffs," says a statement from the Ministry of Commerce of China. "China insists that the United States correct its erroneous practices, engage with the Chinese side to resolve problems, and communicate openly."

Experts from China assert that the increased tariffs will only lead to higher costs for consumers and American companies, and will also disrupt global supply chains.

In response to Trump's actions, China expressed hope that Washington would reconsider its problems, including the fentanyl issue, objectively and rationally, instead of blaming other countries due to the imposition of tariffs.

Reminding of its tradition in the fight against narcotics, China asserts that it has provided assistance to the U.S. government, cooperating in a broad and deep anti-narcotics campaign. Beijing claims that since 2023 it has been controlling the export of chemical products, necessary for the production of fentanyl, from its territory, in order to prevent narcotics from Mexico from being illegally produced and sold in the United States.

The upcoming countermeasures against the tariffs were confirmed in a statement involving three countries related to fentanyl trafficking and other narcotics in the U.S., which, according to Trump, endangers public safety.
