China has strongly condemned on Sunday the assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei by the United States and Israel, and once again called for a halt to military operations. The Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the assassination "represents a serious violation of Iran's sovereignty and security, a trampling of the goals and principles of the United Nations Charter and the basic norms of international relations." The ministry added that "China firmly opposes this and strongly condemns it," calling for "an immediate cessation of military operations, a return to dialogue and negotiations, and an end to unilateral measures."
