China reiterated its opposition to the recent meeting between Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and personnel from the Taiwan region, urging Japan to reflect on its historical guilt and adhere to the one-China principle.
"There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is part of China," stated Zhang Han, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, at a press conference.
She asserted that Japan's actions severely violate the one-China principle, the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan, and the basic norms governing international relations, sending an extremely wrong signal to secessionists on the island.
"We express our firm opposition," added the spokesperson, according to Xinhua News Agency.
Zhang Han stated that any attempt to separate Taiwan from China is an illusion and warned against seeking secession with the support of external forces. She emphasized that any such attempts will end in an even worse failure.
Regarding the bilateral relationship, President Xi Jinping stated that China is ready to work with Japan to build constructive bilateral relations that meet the requirements of the new era.
