A 25-year-old Chinese woman who won a bronze medal and a cash prize for surviving 35 days in a wilderness survival competition said she had to eat dozens of rodents to stay alive but was also happy to lose 14 kg of weight. Zhao Zizuo, who has 38,000 followers on social media, recently announced her achievement. She participated in the contest, which began on October 1 on an island in eastern China's Zhejiang province. According to the competition's manager, Jing, two men are still insisting on staying on the island in pursuit of the grand prize of 50,000 yuan ($7,000). China has seen a growing interest in wilderness survival games recently. The winner who survives the longest will receive a cash prize of 200,000 yuan ($28,000). Zhao also suffered severe sunburn. She said the ordeal was worth it because her weight dropped from 85 kg to 71 kg. She remained in the wilderness until November 5, coming in third place and winning a cash prize of 7,500 yuan ($1,000), which included 6,000 yuan ($840) for surviving 30 days and 300 yuan ($40) for each additional day. Zhao endured 40-degree heat, her hands suffered from the harsh conditions, and her feet were covered in scars from insect bites.
