A Chinese man's attempt to steal from an apartment using a 'Trojan horse' box failed. The 46-year-old man, surnamed Zhao, hid inside a wooden box and hired a courier to deliver it to a residential building in Hunan province. After the box was taken inside the building, Zhao emerged and followed a woman home, claiming he was a 'debt collector'. He then forced her to open her safe, stealing gold jewelry weighing 230 grams and 2,000 yuan in cash. To prevent her from raising the alarm, Zhao forced her to take sleeping pills. However, the woman regained consciousness and immediately called the police. The investigation, which involved over 50 officers, reviewed surveillance footage and questioned witnesses. Ultimately, as reported by the South China Morning Post, investigators discovered that the suspect had entered the building inside the box. After the woman lost consciousness, Zhao spent about four hours cleaning the apartment to remove any evidence before returning to the box and ordering another courier to pick it up. Police arrested Zhao on October 18 and returned him to Hunan, recovering the stolen gold. Zhao himself admitted that his 'Trojan horse' method was inspired by TV shows and expressed surprise at how quickly the police were able to locate him.
