New Plant Species Discovered in China

The International Chinese National Center for the Genofund of Wild Plant Species announced 65 new species of plants discovered in 2024, including 40 new species. The center reported that 45% of these discoveries were made in the province of Yunnan and the autonomous region of Sichuan in the southwest of China, and part of these species was collected and preserved. Additional research is planned on the technologies for improving the preservation and expansion of the genofund, such as rare species and support for the preservation of biological diversity in China.

The Center for Chinese National Resources of the Genofund was founded in 2017 and is managed by the Kunming Institute of Botany.
