The Chinese technology company ByteDance, known as the parent company of the popular social network TikTok, has attracted the attention of users and investors in recent days by launching an artificial intelligence (AI) model for video generation that «exceeds expectations in terms of realism».
This new AI, called Seedance 2.0, was launched this past weekend, and its performance has led to significant stock market gains for companies not only in that sector but also in the entertainment industry, with some of them reaching their maximum daily gains in recent sessions.
According to the economic news portal Caixin, this model can generate realistic footage with smooth movements, in addition to adding sounds that match the images, which for the first time puts ByteDance in a position to compete with KlingAI, developed by the short video platform Kuaishou.
Feng Ji, producer of the popular video game 'Black Myth: Wukong', described Seedance 2.0 as «the most powerful video generation model to date», and predicted a significant impact on reducing production costs for film and television, as well as for other types of content.
The official Seedance 2.0 website states that the main difference from similar models is its ability to maintain character consistency across different scenes.
According to analysts at Kaiyuan Securities cited by Bloomberg, this new model could mark a before and after for the use of AI in film and television: «The test results are impressive. It supports text, image, video, and audio input, and has made advances in key capabilities».
However, Feng also sounded the alarm about the proliferation of fake videos generated by these types of services, which could create a crisis of confidence: «Realistic fake videos will be within everyone's reach, and intellectual property and supervision systems will face unprecedented challenges».
«In the future, any video content that does not have official and authorized backing, especially those with personal images and voices, could be fake. Please make sure to verify them through multiple channels to avoid being deceived,» the producer indicated on social networks.
