A court in China's central Guizhou province sentenced a man to death on Friday for intentionally murdering his two young children. According to the Zunyi court, the defendant, Liu Zhongjie, deceived his 10- and 7-year-old sons into ingesting a pesticide, a toxic substance commonly used in rural areas. After the children consumed the poison, the defendant took no action to provide aid or seek medical attention, leading to their deaths. The court determined that the defendant acted deliberately and exploited the dependency and trust inherent in the victims' age. In its ruling, the court emphasized that the crime occurred in the context of a marital dispute that the defendant 'failed to manage properly.' The court deemed the defendant's conduct an 'extremely serious' intentional homicide, as he used a method that endangered the children's lives and made no attempt to rescue them afterward.
