In the Chinese province of Sichuan, a boy from the village of Cizizun triggered a powerful explosion by throwing a petard into a drainage ditch. Video recordings captured the boy playing near a car with a firecracker, then throwing it, fleeing upon seeing the flames, after which an explosion followed, lifting parked cars on the grassy area of the parking lot into the air and colliding with each other. After the incident, a large crater became visible and displaced soil was found at the site of the explosion.
So far, there has been no information about the victims, but the "China News" agency reported that the police detained the boy less than an hour after the incident, and he was returned to his parents for the investigation. According to the newspaper "Global Times", this is not the first case where playing with firecrackers leads to explosions. For example, in February 2023, two children in Henan did something similar, which resulted in the roof of a drainage ditch collapsing, the death of one boy, and injuries to another.
