In Shanghai, a man lost around 28 thousand dollars as a result of romantic fraud, in which he was persuaded to enter, being presented with a fabricated romantic interest created with the help of artificial intelligence. The incident was described in Chinese media.
According to information from the state CCTV channel, the fraudsters used generative-adversarial networks of artificial intelligence to create realistic video recordings and photographs of a young woman, issuing her as a fictional person named 'Miss Tiao'.
The victim lost around 28 thousand dollars to a bank account that was considered his fictional romantic interest on the Internet, after the fraudsters used fake photographs to convince him that his fictional girlfriend needed money for starting a business and paying medical bills of relatives.
A fake identity and medical reports were even created to convince the victim, claims CCTV. According to the state channel, citing the police investigation, the operation was conducted by a team of fraudsters, which sent videos and photographs, all created with the use of artificial intelligence or through combining several images.
It was indicated that the victim, identified as Liu, never encountered her fictional romantic interest during the time of the proposed relationships.
