China's Loneliest Delivery Man: The Story of Huang Kaihong in Medog County

Huang Kaihong, a 24-year-old delivery driver in China's Medog County, the last place in the country to be connected by roads, is known as 'China's loneliest delivery man' as he is the only one in the county. Medog County is located at the foot of the Himalayas and has a population of less than 15,000 people, and Huang is a lifeline for the local community, connecting residents with daily services and necessities. In an interview, Huang revealed that he was born in Sichuan Province in Southwest China and has always been fascinated by the stunning natural scenery of Tibet. Huang wears an orange uniform and rides a motorcycle to deliver up to 200 orders a day, while reports indicate that delivery drivers in major Chinese cities typically handle only 40 to 60 orders a day, earning between 4 and 8 yuan (60 cents to one US dollar) per order. Huang confirmed that the long rainy season and rugged mountain roads often lead to skidding, making the maintenance of his vehicle time-consuming and costly, but he still enjoys his job, describing it as a source of freedom. 'I enjoy the wind on the road, and the fee I get for each order gives me stability,' he said. In his spare time, Huang explores the surrounding landscapes, visiting waterfalls and snow-capped mountains on his motorcycle. He is used to solitude and describes it as 'something I was born with.' Huang's role is not limited to just delivering orders; he also manages the delivery station, coordinates business operations, and sometimes intervenes to resolve local disputes, without disclosing his monthly income. Huang stated that he plans to move to Dali in Yunnan Province, known for its spring-like climate year-round, after saving enough money. His story and related posts have garnered over two million views on Chinese social media.
