Incentives for Marriage and Childbirth in Luoyang

Luoyang, a city in Shanxi province, is offering marriage and childbirth incentives amid China's demographic crisis. The financial aid aims to boost birth rates as the population continues to decline.

The Lulian District of Shanyansi Province, located in northern China, is among the regions that have introduced incentives for marriage and childbirth due to the demographic crisis. The total subsidy, although modest for the average Chinese citizen, amounts to around half of the average monthly salary in Lulian.

Young couples, standing in front of the local administrative building, where they are required to register their marriage, held with satisfaction a set of documents issued to them by the authorities to cover their marriage registration. Groom Chan Can shared, "I think that this subsidy of around 1500 yuan (220 dollars), which we received, falls within the framework of the government's policy to stimulate birth rates, as in 2024 the population of China is expected to decline for the third consecutive year."
