Five people were trapped and died after a coal mine flooded in Heilongjiang province in northeastern China, local authorities reported, according to the Argentine News Agency. The incident occurred around 04:30 local time at the Datonggou mine, operated by Heilongjiang Fengyuan Mining Co., Ltd., in the city of Jixi, according to the municipal publicity department. Authorities have established a joint command center to coordinate rescue operations, and searches at the site continue while the causes of the flooding are being investigated.
