In Hong Kong, excitement has erupted over pandas, where local residents are vying for the naming of two giant pandas born in the territory of the region and only reaching six months old. The naming competition for the panda cubs, born on August 15 of last year, was launched yesterday after a ceremony attended by Hong Kong leader John Lee and other officials at the Ocean Park amusement park, where the cubs and their parents live, as well as two other giant pandas brought from mainland China last year.
Lee noted that the current moment in Hong Kong's history is the time with the largest number of pandas in the area outside of mainland China and announced that the names of the pandas will be revealed in the first half of this year.
All residents can submit their suggestions for names for the panda cubs through the park's online portal.
