Study Links Breakfast to Heart Disease and Depression

A recent study conducted by researchers from Harbin China University found that consuming a caloric breakfast may help protect the heart from depression. The researchers noted that there is growing evidence linking heart disease and depression, and diet plays an important role in alleviating depressive symptoms in patients with coronary artery disease.

The study, published in the journal "BMC Psychiatry," is based on data from over 32,000 people and includes information about their dietary habits on regular days. Among the participants were about 3,500 people with coronary artery disease and more than 550 individuals suffering from depression. Researchers also noted that the timing of food intake is also significant along with food quality.

The results of the study showed that basic dietary components, such as proteins and carbohydrates, are not associated with an increased risk of depression, while reallocating certain calories from a breakfast could prove beneficial for health.
