As of Q3 2024, China has constructed 39.1 million kW of offshore wind power, claiming the top global position. This was announced during a conference in Beihai, Guangxi, discussing innovations and international cooperation in offshore wind energy.

China Leads Global Offshore Wind Energy with 39.1 Million kW

According to information from the Shinkhua agency, at the conference on cooperation in the wind energy supply chain, it was announced that China plans to achieve global leadership in the field of wind energy, with an installed and connected capacity to the national grid of 39.1 million kilowatts of wind energy by the third quarter of 2024. At the conference, which was held yesterday in Peihai in the Guangdong province, it was noted that China has formed relative fully technological and industrial chains for wind energy, covering design, production, construction, operation, and maintenance. Participants of the event discussed strategic innovations, key technologies in wind energy, as well as international cooperation in modern industrial chains of wind energy. In this regard, China, possessing rich resources of wind energy, demonstrated a striving for development in the field of industrial chains, increasing the total installed wind energy capacity from less than five million kilowatts in 2018 to 37.7 million kilowatts in 2023, which makes up 50% of the overall indicator. Moreover, over 90% of wind turbines are installed in local production in China.
